Website Promotion
Using Press Releases
Set
up a press release to announce your new site and send it out to any media
outlet you think might possibly be interested. Keep it short, sharp, and
informative - stress the innovation of your site and why people would be
interested in visiting it. Don't be discouraged if you don't see your
web site appearing in the news immediately, as it is just a rule of thumb that
most press releases are ignored. Don't expect blanket coverage, as it
will not happen. Your goal with a press release is just to have the
story appear a few times - even if it's only once or twice you know that
hundreds or even thousands will have seen it. And that is a great success!
Some tips to keep in mind when writing a press release:
1) Remember you're writing a press release and not an
advertisement
2) Stress what is newsworthy about your new site - what
does it do that is new?
3) Write the release so that journalist can actually use
the wording in their report.
4) Keep it short and simple so that the reader is focused
on a couple of key points
5) Include facts, where relevant, about your site and its
theme; i.e. 13 million people have home businesses, etc.
6) Include a contact e-mail and telephone number in case
anyone wants to interview - and make sure you are to answer questions.
